Walking in a Winter Wonderland

December 16th, 2008 by Silvia

This weekend I watched the Holiday, and as usual found myself lusting after Kate Winslet’s gorgeous stone cottage. How romantic would a winter wedding be at a venue such as that one?

Well maybe her cottage would be a tad small, but I’m sure you could find something similar. I think I found a winner on Style Me Pretty (and the other picture here)! I absolutely adore winter weddings, they’re so romantic. Check out some of the fabulous inspiration below to host your own holiday soiree and check out our selection of winter wedding favors!

A venue such as those will probably need a cozy fire to heat it up, as well as lots of romantic candlelight. A single white dahlia looks so elegant paired with the brown tones of the tabletop. Those red hanging flowers look stunning with the candlelight and I love the votive candles lining the stairs.

If you’re not expecting rain, check out this idea. The candles look just like fairy lights!

Most likely though, the winter weather will not be very predictable and so you should probably opt for some more weather neutral decorations, which can look gorgeous nonetheless. Try hanging some festive Christmas lights from your reception venue or even use the lighting to highlight multi-colored plants. I love those lights that are hanging from the tree. They look like fire-works (KLK Photography).

Winter is the perfect time for baked goods of any kind, so take advantage of the time that you’ll spend in the kitchen anyway and make your own wedding favors, after all, edible wedding favors are always a hit with kids (of any age!). Here’s a recipe for the winter cherry brownies (or you could purchase some mini brownie favor pops instead) and one for the miniature panettone via Snippet and Ink on Martha Stewart. You could make some homemade marshmallows or dip some candy canes in white chocolate and sprinkles for an easy but super yummy DIY treat. Package any of these goodies in a festive favor box or some clear favor cones and prepare to impress your guests.

These aren’t exactly wedding pictures, but these are definitely magazine-worthy engagement photos. Take a cue from these lovebirds and hold your wedding or engagement photos in a romantic tree-lined spot such as these.

Aren’t these couple shots adorable? I’d want to have a winter wedding just so that I could get shots like these. I love the one of the couple kissing in the snow and the couple kissing in the car shot is so romantic!

A winter wedding is a great way to make a style statement. Just check out these women’s lovely winter coats. I’m loving the wrap on the first bride shot by Jose Villa and the hat that the bride is wearing in the last shot by Laura Novak.

Umbrella shots are also great. This first one isn’t from a wedding, but how great does that bright umbrella look amongst the mist? I also love the shot of everybody looking up at the sky.

When decorating, the best option is to go the natural route. Those hanging pine-cones are such a great details and I am in love with those frozen cherries! You might also want to make your own garlands to hang over door-frames.

As for the table-tops, you can’t go wrong with Christmas ornaments. You can skip the flowers entirely and place colorful ornaments or even pine cones inside vases. You can also scatter a few ornaments on a decorative platter.

Winter plants are also a great way to dress up your tabletop. Check out those unique candle-holders, or even that flowery centerpiece. Very wintery indeed!

If you’re really into the spirit, why not make your own pine-cone bouquet. Of course, you could always go a little more traditional with a hefty bouquet of poinsettias.

As far as you stationery, check out this adorable save the date invitation! It’s absolutely perfect for a snowy winter wedding. You might also consider having a few photo albums out for guests to take a peek at. These could include pictures of past holidays spent with your loved one, or other couple-y pictures.

Finally, here are a few other unique ways to make your wedding truly memorable. Make your wedding getaway by sleigh ride. You could also walk together through the snow, or even end the night by having your guests roast their own marshmallows.

I’ve never been much of a winter wedding-type gal in the past, but as the holidays approach and the house is decorated with garland galore, I definately see the appeal.

What a lovely way to incorporate some luxurious things – fur, glistening candlelight and sparkly garland.

    How delightful!

Love the picture of the couple riding away on a horse drawn sledge – very romantic :-)

Wow…what a great post. I agree with Inspired Goodness, I was never much of a winter wedding person, but these images have changed my mind! I love that pic with all the little tea lights on the steps – sooo romantic!
