I went to the pumpkin patch the other day and seeing all the kids running around amidst the hay bales and pumpkins really put me in a fall frame of mind! I can’t think of anything more appropriate than dedicating this post to a traditional fall wedding with plenty of colorful leaves, pumpkins, and rustic barns.

A fall wedding would ideally take place somewhere in the country where the changing leaves can provide the backdrop. A rustic farm or a meadow set against the mountains would make the perfect location.

For the perfect decorations be sure to mix a blend of flowers with other natural elements including branches, hollowed out pumpkins (and other gourds), and wheat. Light up the night with plenty of lanterns and candles and show off the natural wood of your tables with a simple runner or nothing at all. Finally, seat your guests during the ceremony atop some hay bales covered with colorful blankets.

Take advantage of all the apples this season by using them as escort cards or place card holders. Give your little flower girl personalized leaves to scatter instead of rose petals, and use wooden signs to direct your guests. Finally when you’re making your getaway do so in a wagon or vintage train.

Greet your guests at the reception with a dessert buffet ladled with cakes, caramel apples, and other goodies. Set up baskets filled with apples and give them different kinds of nuts in individual servings. Then warm your guests up with some hot apple cider garnished with cinnamon sticks. For the food be sure to serve something hearty to help clear away the chilliness of the fall evenings and send your guests home with some personalized fall cookies as fall wedding favors.

To keep yourself warm, not to mention take some stunning glam shots, wear a (faux) fur stole in a rich brown. Dress your groomsmen in khaki suits and have your bridesmaids wear rich brown gowns. Don’t forget about your little flower girl and let her wear a wildflower wreath around her head.
