Thanksgiving-Inspired Fall Wedding

November 27th, 2009 by Silvia

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. It has everything I love: Lots of merry family time, wonderful food, and none of the pressures of gift-giving. SO, in my mind, there can’t be anything better than having a Thanksgiving-inspired Fall wedding!

Of course, I have to start with the food. Give thanks on your special day by serving up a feast of goodies including fresh baked bread, homemade pies, fresh cheeses, delicious wine, and of course some turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy. You can even have your guests participate by bringing in their own concoctions in a potluck-style reception.

The wonderful fall colors make for some spectacular pictures, so bundle up and hold your event in an old fashioned church, the town country store, a remodeled barn, or even outside in the great outdoors.

For the decor, set up some family style tables outdoors and keep your colors neutral with a warm brown and orange palette with a hint of blue and white. You can decorate your space with paper lanterns, piled storage crates paired with colorful flowers, tree branches with the colorful leaves intact, and of course plenty of pumpkin accents. If you’re holding your event indoors, drape the ceiling in golden swaths of fabric paired with twinkle lights for a romantic and cozy feel.

The decorations are all in the details, so set up your pumpkins atop hay bales, hand out mini bottles of olive oil for wedding favors, and entertain your guests with some live music. Don’t forget to set out some Indian corn and use nature as your inspiration when arranging your accents.

Thanksgiving is all about the oranges and browns, so make these your wedding colors. You could even incorporate some blues into your maid’s dresses to blend in with the stormy autumn skies. Wear a warm shawl and give some matching ones to your flower girls to keep everyone stylish, yet warm!
