7 Honeymoon must-haves you might have otherwise forgotten!

March 28th by Samantha Chan

Toothpaste, clothes, swimsuit… of course. But what about all those “If I had only remembered!” items?

Don’t get caught off guard at your honeymoon. Remember to pack all the essentials, but also remember these last minute honeymoon must-haves!

1) To Your Health

Don’t forget your medication (we mean this in the nicest way possible!). But seriously, remember your pills. Prescriptions won’t be easily refillable abroad so make this a priority. In addition, also pack over the counter medications like pain relievers, cold remedies, allergy medication, nausea relief, anti-diarrhea, and motion sickness meds. Depending on your destination, you may or may not find these conveniences so easily so play it safe and plan ahead.

2) A Girl’s Gotta Bring Her Shoes

Well… of course. But don’t overlook bringing practical shoes. An often undervalued shoe is the flip-flop. These are obvious for a beach destination, but because they can be easily worn indoors as well, they are ideal for any honeymoon destination. Flip-flops will protect your tootsies from potentially less than clean hotel floors or showers.

Also pack a pair of running/hiking shoes. Whether or not you PLAN on being active, you may find yourself in serious need of a supportive shoe midweek. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a comfortable standby ready to go?

3) All Bags Everything

Luggage, check. Carry-on, check. Purse, check. But small totes, coin purses, and backpacks? Better get these on the list too.

A back pack will come in handy for hikes or just long days in general where you’ll want to be hands free. Money belts and/or small coin purses are advisable for traveling and shopping abroad to keep your goods safe. A small-medium tote to house books, sunscreen, and water is a life saver for beach destinations.

Another tidbit, be sure to add luggage tags to anything you check in. If anything does get lost, you want your chances of retrieval to be as high as possible.

4) Protect Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself

You’ve likely already researched your honeymoon destination to death and you’re probably well aware of the environment. So be ready for its elements with sunscreen, aloe, hand sanitizer, tissues, insect repellent, chapstick, tampons, sunglasses, mini medical kit, etc. Whatever you think you’ll need to survive comfortably in that particular climate. Similar to medications, drug stores may not be as easily available so pack for what you think you’ll need ahead of time.

5) Paperwork, Receipts, & Documents

While most of the world is highly digital… there are still some things that just can’t be replaced. Get a little type-A when it comes to packing your paperwork if you don’t want to get caught in the rain (or worst case scenario… caught hotel less). Be sure to pack your ID, passport, itinerary, travelers checks , hotel confirmations/receipts, and any pre-booked activity confirmations/receipts. And if that’s not anal enough, bring copies of all (just in case).

Another good idea is to leave some paperwork with your family members. Before leaving, hand over the following information to a trusted friend or family member for safe keeping: emergency contact information, your itinerary, hotel phone numbers, etc. Again… just in case.

6) Entertainment & Gadgets

Entertainment and technology are interchangeable nowadays. Now, you’ll know what your favorite toys are and probalby don’t need us to tell you what to bring here, but some suggestions to get your started: headphones, e-readers, books, ipads, magazines, deck of cards, and cameras. Pack accordingly of course. For example, if you’re spending a week plus on a remote, wifi less island, maybe leave the ipad behind.

Depending on your destination, be prepared with adaptors. These can be costly and difficult to find abroad so shop for them ahead of time.

7) Romance

Not that we need to remind you, but here we go anyway. This is your honeymoon! Don’t forget to pack the romance. Candles, bubble bath, massage oil, lingerie, the list can be as long and as creative as you’d like it to be. Just remember to bring a little something to fully celebrate the spirit of this trip. Enjoy!
