Gold may be too pricy these days to feature heavily in Indian weddings, but that doesn't mean you can't show the subcontinent a good cheap alternative by having a gold-themed wedding.
India's Economic Times reported that India's gold sales dropped on Wednesday as prices stayed high, causing a major bummer in the local wedding scene, which is also the world's biggest gold market.
There's still a lot of weddings taking place this season after the Dhanteras and Diwali festivals, which will still create some demand for the precious metal, reports the Times.
Perhaps a cheap piece of tinsel is no replacement for the gold that plays such an important role in India's social functions, but sneaking in a metallic paint here and there may help lessen the blow.
Try giving wedding favors in small gold boxes, or using gold beaded place frames to decorate the dinner tables. Guests will feel lavish drinking bubbly out of gold champagne flutes, and the occasional gold ribbon here and there will lend a subtle golden shimmer to the event.
