A promise is forever, but that doesn't mean you can count on your ring to stick around.
Travis Pittman of Des Moines, Washington, made waves when he proposed to his girlfriend on a pier last weekend and accidentally dropped the ring into the Puget Sound.
Pittman initially surprised girlfriend Kim Hopper with the ring, asking her to marry him even though he couldn't afford a nice ring. Lucky for him, she still said yes, after which he pulled out the ring and immediately saw it vanish.
"It was beautiful, from what I saw," Hopper told MSNBC. Pittman said that he "shudders to think that [he] may be engaged to a salmon."
While the couple waits with bated breath for scuba divers to get down there with metal detectors, we wondered what kinds of fun bridal shower themes the phantom ring could inspire.
Sail-boats? Starfish? Perhaps Hopper could offer guests bags of sea creatures as a bridal shower favor. Better yet, she could hide a ring in one of them and offer an extra-special prize to whoever finds it.
