A birthday tea party with teddy bears and friends is ideal for little ladies in preschool and kindergarten, giving them an opportunity to dress up, socialize and pretend they are all grown up. Even though you'll likely want to throw a "formal" bash, there are a lot of ways to keep the celebration kid-friendly.
Invitations. Filling inexpensive mini teapot favors with candy is a fun way to get guests excited about the soiree. Paper invites should be printed on flowered, colorful or tea-themed paper with date, time and location information and a clever quote like "Tea for two and two for tea, you're invited to a party".
Decorations. The table is the most important element of a good teaparty and should be decorated to the nines with a brightly colored tablecloth, silver-plated teapot place card holders designating seating arrangements and fancy mini tea sets that can be taken home by each guest and won’t be missed if chipped or broken.
Games. Dressing for tea is half the fun and hosts should plan on providing several items that can be used for pre-tea dress up. Fill a chest with old clothing, hats and costume jewelry purchased from local thrift stores and stock up on feather boas, ladylike personalized silk fans and princess crowns from party stores for each girl to wear. With the help of guests’ parents, spend an hour styling each girls hair with curls, braids and glitter and use quick-dry nail polish to give fancy manicures for table-ready hands.
Menu. Although you're coordinating a party specifically centered around tea, many younger children have never tasted the traditionally 'adult' beverage, so you'll likely need to serve several other kid-friendly options. Fruit infused teas, hot chocolate packets and warm spiced apple cider drinks are sure to go over well with younger crowds and can be "brewed" in a teapot for serving. Finger foods, like miniature heart shaped PB&J and grilled cheese sandwiches, sliced fruits and vegetables and cheese and cracker combinations, are sure to be gobbled up quickly. Giving each guest a personalized two-tier mini cake with the birthday girl's initials instead of having one large cake is a fun way to celebrate.
Favors. Send each guest home with the costume they picked out earlier and a gift bag containing personalized hot chocolate sachets and signature petit four desserts.
