On doing your job as a bridesmaid

The job description of a bridesmaid involves more than just walking in step with the bride down the aisle. Bridesmaids are responsible for planning a shower and bachelorette party, for playing counsel to the bride along every step of her wedding planning journey and for emotional support leading up to (and especially on) the big day.

Being there for your nearlywed friend requires you to rely a lot on your own skills as a confidant, mentor and loyal supporter. But sometimes, there a few rather material items that may aid you on your way to superior bridesmaid status.

For one, your soon-to-be-wed friend may have some go-to food or drink items that she turns to when she's stressed out. Take a hint and be ready with her favorite bag of candy or bottle of wine for when it is finally time to get her game face on.

You may be called on to do a lot for your friend, but you should still get her a wedding gift just like everybody else. Perhaps you're off the hook when it comes to taking care of the more expensive items on her registry, but a personalized bath wrap or personalized travel cosmetics case is a thoughtful way to help her along the path to utter relaxation.
