We purchases these for a coporate event. We did not use the cards that came with the stands because we wanted to print our own. They really added a nice touch to the normal escort cards and they went with a picture favor that we also gave out.
Some folks did not keep them or really know what to do with them, but a couple remarked that it was a nice touch.
My only suggestion would be to have cards that come in sheets for easy printing. Writing out escort cards could be a pain with a big event!

These can be used for more than seat markers at weddings. I ordered a bunch to use for a New Years Eve party that I hosted. I made labels to identify each of the food dishes, and placed them next to each of the bowls of food. Not only did this add some festive decoration to the food tables, it helped my guests distinguish between the mild and mango salsas, and it assisted those guests with food allergies!
