Back-to-school birthday bash ideas

How does your family fashion a guest list for the children's birthday parties each year? Some say that children should be allowed to invite the same number of guests as their age. Others argue that little ones should be able to ask over only one or two friends outside of the family. If your child has a birthday this school year, he may even wish to include the entire class in his celebration. Unfortunately, inviting thirty, forty or even fifty children over for a birthday bash is often not possible, economical or safe for the sanity of parents - but leaving kids off of the list can be difficult, especially when other classmates are invited.

That's why many schools allow their students to host short birthday festivities for a few minutes during class time on their special day. Although cupcakes or cookies have traditionally been brought in by the birthday boy during these events, some schools have banned the passing out of food items to protect young children with food allergies from ingesting homemade goods. Finding a small party favor for your son to give to his classmates is an easy and effective way to make sure that everyone can enjoy his special day in the classroom.

The trick is to find an item that doesn't cost a lot and is appropriate for students of both genders. For elementary school students in kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade, sending in an activity might be the best option to keep kids entertained throughout the festivities. A 'decorate your own' jigsaw party favor is an easy and fun craft for little kids to do without individualized adult supervision. These fully stocked kits come with markers, paints and stickers that kids can use to custom create their very own puzzle game for use throughout the year!

Teachers of older kids in 4th, 5th and 6th grade might appreciate the value of a different kind of party favor - an educational one! If your son's class is learning to fine tune their reading and writing skills, handing out personalized birthday notebooks to each classmate is a fun way to get kids excited about sharing their own personal stories. If your son is more interested in the workings of the world of math, baby piggy bank favors might better suit his tastes.

Whatever you choose to give out, remember that it doesn't have to be complex or expensive. Your child will be thrilled to celebrate his special day with the students he is surrounded by daily, and giving out party favors during class is just the icing on a very exciting cake!
