Break out of the mold with statement accents at your wedding

Not that there's anything wrong with ballet pink, ivory and white, but fashion-forward brides have more than these traditional offerings to choose from when it comes to setting the mood of their event.

Los Angeles Times style blogger Melissa Magsaysay recommends turning up the volume on what are traditionally muted bridal nail colors.

"A shade of light purple [or] lavender would be pretty and definitely out of the bridal nail "norm," she wrote on the blog. "Shimmery gold nails will look timeless, beautiful and unexpected as well as complement your wedding colors, which is so much more modern and chic than trying to rigidly match them."

Once you start paying attention to tiny details such as your nails, you'll find hidden opportunities galore to add a pop of unexpected color to your decorations. Round paper lanterns would look great hanging in clusters over the reception space, and you could have them arranged mostly in white with just a few sparse lanterns in an accent color. Silk rose petals would also look wonderful scattered over the tables, and you can choose colors other than traditional red or pink.
