Keys to throwing a joint birthday party

If you have twins or children with birthdays close together, you may want to consider starting a joint party tradition - not only will this cut back on planning for you, but when properly executed they're twice as fun! Putting one of these shindigs together doesn't have to be doubly difficult, either. With a bit of preparation and foresight on your part, you can easily throw a joint birthday party that your little ones will eagerly anticipate for years to come. Here are a few things to keep in mind when putting the celebration together.

Be ready for a lot of guests in your house - your kids are likely going to be inviting a lot of people to the party, so you need to have enough supplies to keep everyone happy for a few hours. One way to keep children occupied is to hand out "decorate your own placemat" kits. They come with a bunch of stickers and the kids will get a kick out of having their own unique mat. The added benefit of this activity is that your table will stay cleaner!

If the weather permits, you should encourage the kids to play outside. Since there's going to be so many people in your house, you'll have a moment to sit down and breathe, which can do wonders for your peace of mind. If going outside isn't an option, you could also screen a movie. There are plenty of kids' movies out there that are universally adored, so go ahead and pick your little one's favorite. Leave out a few mini metal sailboats filled with delightful candies so they'll have something to munch on while watching.

Before the party, ask your children what their favorite cake is - if they disagree, bake a half-recipe of each and put them together! You can distinguish which is which by changing up the frosting color. Be sure both children have the chance to blow out their candles - it can get a little tricky, but ice cream cone candles are small enough that you should be able to fit enough on the cake.

When everyone leaves, hand them a great goodie bag filled with mini classic gumball machines and monogrammed brownie pops. They make for the perfect exclamation point on what was surely a fun and memorable party!
