Steps for stress free bridal shower planning

If you've been tasked with planning a bridal shower for your best friend, chances are you're stressing out. After all, you want to show them a good time before they join the ranks of the married, but how do you do it? It's certainly tough for you to get all your friends in one places and make sure everybody is having fun, but if you follow a few steps, you can make sure the process is a smooth one.

1. Don't go it alone. Chances are your friends (and maybe even the bride's own husband-to-be) will want to help in the planning process. Though you might want to pick all the decorations (engraved glass centerpieces, obviously), try to delegate some of the other tasks, such as cooking and invitations to someone else.

2. Plan well ahead of time. It's probably not your style to do things in advance, but trust us, it will be worth it. Developing a long list of food, supplies, decorations and even guests well before the actual date will reduce the chances of you having to go out the last minute to pick up some personalized wedding napkins or other miscellaneous items.

3. Communicate with the bride. It doesn't have to be a big surprise as to what they're expecting. Wouldn't you rather they be happy with something than it being shockingly awful? Ask for their preferences in terms of food, activities and guests and you won't have to be anxious about whether or not they'll like it when zero hour arrives. For example, if she wants a photo wedding wishing well, that's what she'll get.

4. Take shortcuts wherever possible. Most people don't realize how expensive such a party can be. We're not saying to throw a cheap-as-nails soiree, but if you can cut some corners, why not? Instead of splurging on a caterer, cook some food yourself. We have faith in you.

5. Don't take it too seriously. While that overbearing sister-in-law of hers may want everything to be perfect, just remember that it's only one day and it's not nearly as important as the wedding itself is. So just relax and chances are everyone will have a good time anyway.
