This year brings cheer and more office holiday parties

If this year's Black Friday sales weren't enough to get Americans optimistic about the financial state of our country, those who belong to the nine-to-five sector have something else to look forward to this year.

According to a Challenger, Gray & Christmas survey, 64 percent of companies are hosting holiday parties this year, up 2 percent since last year. Four percent of those throwing a bash are making a comeback after having to cancel previous festivities due to the recession.

Still, most companies are still operating on just as tight of a budget as they were last year, with 76 percent of party-goers spending the same and only 6 percent spending more.

For those with limited budgets, keeping the costs low and the spirits high will be simple, thanks to the wide variety of quality and low-cost decorations and party supplies at hand. Co-workers will most likely go crazy for mini holiday brownie pops and holly berry dipped fortune cookies, which shouldn't cost more than a couple dollars each.
