Wedding Planning: Picking your colors

When couples first begin planning their weddings, the early stages are often the most overwhelming. Between deciding on a venue, a date and a wedding style, the options may feel endless.

After you hammer out the big stuff, the small details will require your attention. Picking your color palette early on is one way to organize your approach to the planning process – it will narrow your scope and allow you to make decisions more quickly.

But - exactly how does one pick her wedding colors? Though some colors are more popular than others each season, you shouldn't feel pressure to choose a combination just because it's trendy. Choose colors that you love.

In general, one bold color, one softer complementary color and one neutral color will work well together.

Cobalt blue, cranberry and crème are a sweet and simple combination, while sage green, butter yellow and a pale gray will lend a sophisticated touch to your ceremony. Some brides like to stick with shades of one color and others like the crisp look of classic black and white.

No matter what you choose, just work to be consistent. Everything from your wedding invitations to your wedding favors should include the colors you choose.
