Cinco de Mayo Party Ideas

It is important to celebrate significant and historic occasions such as the Cindo de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is one event that definitely deserves one big fiesta party. Mexicans commemorate this day as it signifies their victory over the French army during the Battle of Puebla. Every year on the 5th of May, the biggest fiesta draws in big crowds to bars to drink up and be merry.

However, don't be surprised to find many people in the U.S., especially those near the border and those with Mexican ancestry, celebrating the day with their own little backyard party. And if you want to join in the fun event, here are some ideas on how to make yours as spectacular.

Start out by sending out invitations to your guests. The theme would be anything Mexican. You can either buy a pack of invites at a stationery shop or you can print some from your computer and add some colorful confetti in the envelope to give it that festive punch.

Another great idea for invitations, which can also double as a party favor, is by giving a maracas invitation. These are perfect for events such as Cinco de Mayo. Be sure to ask the postal office for the cost and if the invitations are mailable or not.

For your decorations make sure that you hang a chili pepper wreath on your door, or else it won't feel like a real Cinco de Mayo party. Aside from that, you need to put a fiesta banner on your front yard as well as your backyard if that is where you'll be having the party. Don't forget to add a string of lights in alternating lines with the fiesta banner.

To make your venue even more festive, hang red, orange, green, and black balloons all around. And maybe you can also stick some life-size images of flamenco dancers by the door to welcome the guests.

How you decorate your table is also important as many of your guests will be spending most of their time around it. So, you should make it as appealing as possible. One idea is to put flowers in vases with various colors as a centerpiece. Or how about a pot of cactus as a centerpiece instead? Group them in different sizes, but make sure they're not too high. You can also place them by the buffet table if you have one, just remember to keep it away from smaller kids who might get pricked by the cactus spikes.

Another great idea for your table decoration is hanging a sombrero on every chair. This will definitely put your guests in a celebratory mood - they can have fun and take pictures wearing them. It can also serve as a souvenir item to remember the event by.
